Edward James Gibson Holland

Major Edward James Gibson Holland VC was a Canadian recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces, for actions taken during the Second Boer War in South Africa.

Holland was born in Ottawa, Ontario, and attended Lisgar Collegiate Institute. He joined the 5th Princess Louise Dragoon Guards of the militia in 1895, at age 17.
